Balgartnie respite service assists in maintaining existing relationships between people with a mental illness and their families or Carers. Balgartnie recognizes how hard it can be for both the Carer and the person with the disability to constantly be with each other and to be each other’s only support. The responsibility for being a Carer is often gladly accepted yet the price can often be isolation, loneliness, frustration and sadness. Through the respite service Balgartnie tries to lessen the impact upon the Carer. The respite service allows people to focus on what they can do rather than on what they cannot do. It also allows them to spread their wings without fear of causing further worry for their Carer. The respite service provides day programs, sessional workers, respite camps, holidays and day trips. Balgartnie will on occasion fund individual holidays. Respite aims to: Provide Carers with ‘time out’. Re-establish social involvement and sense of belonging to the member. Offer support to both Carers and those with a mental illness. Maintain existing relationships between people with a mental illness and their Carers
